Teiko becomes a Planeteer!
Weekend was good.. left me for plenty of food for thought....
Sat
Washington dc
Releasing my inner sports fan...seats to watch DC United v Chicago Fire! My first American soccer experience, and it was fun! "DC UNITED"..
It was also Earth Hour! if u don't already know basically an hour where you switch off your lights to try take control of the environmental destiny of our plant! Well on Saturday from 8.30pm-9.30pm i was probably cheering/screaming or sighing at the soccer game, however i since asked friends, getting very interesting responses back, my favourite being from my friend (cough cough i'm going to protect his identity! ha;-) was "the idea within me stretches longer than one hour" not everyone was sold on the idea it seems!
Sun
Ghana v Benin.World Cup qualifies.... Ghana won! 1-0 that was enough to make my day!
Sustainability
"The ability to meet our needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs".......can u combine sustainable living with my everyday essential products? i was pleasantly surprised on the companies and products available.
I am a beauty product junkie, always on the look out for the latest products and gadgets- I'm willing to give most things a try! I looked up sustainable beauty.. Perfect Right? Looking fabulous and simultaneously serving Planet Earth! Here are a few products and companies that caught my eye...mainly just copying and pasting as i haven't had the joy of trying out most of the products, for more info go directly to the site! support the planet, and buy eco friendly!

URBAN DECAY www.urbandecay.com
3) Urban Decay came out with a Sustainable shadow pallet..."ten eye shadows, a travel-size Eyeshadow Primer Potion, and a brush and mirror - all housed in sustainable bamboo. Being eco-responsible has never been so indulgent".

ALTERNATE STYLE www.alternatestyle.co.uk
4) "Our trade philosophy is based on sourcing fairly traded raw materials, using natural ingredients for their original abilities and supporting ecological and sustainability of raw materials. The business has evolved as our long term customers would know. greatly beyond measure from a small family brands we have grown accustomed to can cause us, as they usually contain dangerous synthetic petrochemicals (with mineral oil usually the chief ingredient)and other undesirable ingredients.
All our products are made in compliance with EU Regulations and are safety assessed by a toxicologist and all our products are covered by public liability insurance to protect our consumers".
Ive actually tried product from this range and they are lush, uk based Alternate Style! really great and it smells amazing! They are currently giving away 150 free tickets to give away for UK AWARE 2009. So log on for your chance to win!
KIEHL'S www.kiehls.com
5)Never thought Brad Pitt & Kiehl's but apparently so...
They "recently upped their sustainability commitment by partnering with Brad Pitt on a aloe vera biodegradable liquid body cleanser with 100% of net profits going to Make it Right, dedicated to the construction of environmentally sustainable, affordable housing for the displaced victims of Hurricane Katrina which devastated New Orleans in 2005. But that's not all, Kiehl's also provides resources to educate consumers on actions they can take to protect the environment and most recently partnered with Parsons The New School for Design to create Sustainable Design Review, a student competition to highlight innovative sustainable design..."...
Brad , a role model for the ethical man! sigh
ANTI BODY www.anti-body.com
6) Anti-Body was created in 2005 after founders Tamara Johnston-McMahon, Steven and Shelby Moser felt the need to lead a more purpose-filled life. Frustrated with a sense of powerlessness to leave a positive imprint with their lives and work, they embarked on a mission to create a consumer product that would benefit both the customer and the individuals from developing countries who produce their ingredients. After extensive research about the most natural and beneficial ingredients, they formulated a body-care line that would include fair trade certified ingredients. They pledged to create SLS and paraben free products as well as initiate long-term relationships with the laborers who supply their ingredients.
I really like their site, you get the feel that they really want to give back!
I guess the moral of this blog entry is that if we want to be sustainable, we don't nec need to restrict it to energy saving light bulbs and compulsory re cycling! but if you look hard enough and are willing to make some changes here and there, then you can really begin to preserve out planet on a daily sustainable! basis...! kisses, x Teiko
p.s. leaving you with some Captain Planet! They need to bring back this show for real!!! THE POWER IS YOURS ;-)

Plus Model Magazine! - The Freedom To Be You!
Its always wonderful to feel celebrated, I love finding out about the latest industry trends and developments, one of the leading publications out there is Plus Model Magazine! There is a great plus size community here in NY, so much empowering stuff...
I caught up with the editor of Plus Magazine , Madeline Figueroa Jones, her magazine is totally inspiring, enjoy!
1)How long has Plus Model magazine been running for?
PLUS Model Magazine has been hitting the virtual air waves for nearly three years. We will be celebrating our third year this coming July.
2) What kinda features can we expect to read about in your magazine?
Our magazine is geared towards the plus size modeling industry, its fashions and anything that celebrates the industry itself such as the designers, photographers, etc. We like to give the readers knowledge of the industry but also appeal to those women who have no interest in modeling but want style tips and ideas on how to look good in this seasons newest styles.
3) You have the most beautiful cover models, how do u select who should front your magazine?
It’s a very thought out process. 99% of the cover models are signed models or models who have been shooting and working as freelance models for a while. I have to know that if I set up a shoot with that model that I am going to get that awesome shot for the cover. We did make one exception with this years January cover model, Katie Reed. Her pictures were amazing and she is someone who we believe will go far in this industry. I'm always mindful to include different looking models in order to appeal to our wide audience.
4) What has the response to the magazine been like?
We would not be into our third year of virtual production without the support of the industry. Everyone from agency bookers and owners, models, photographers and makeup artist make this magazine come to the readers every month. Without them there would be no PLUS for our readers. Our readers are our heroes... they are the ones who help support us with feedback, emails of encouragement and sometimes constructive criticism. We are all growing together.
5) As an editor you are constantly being updated on the changes and developments in the plus market. How do you think the plus market has evolved since you started the magazine?
In the past three years I have seen the larger names like Michael Kors and Calvin Klein develop plus lines which is something we all thought would never happen. Yet I think the development of the smaller boutiques and designers is what has inspired me the most. We have online stores dedicated to plus size clothing and now we even have our own vintage store right here in New York! I think that even though we are in a recession the plus size community is still thriving because we support one another and inspire one another.
If you are in NY on the 19th of April Plus Model Magazine have teamed up with the National MS Society to go on a walk, towards finding a cure for MS which still does not have a cure. For more information or to partake go to:

bday!
Beyonce does it again, this time she graces the April 09 edition of Vogue magazine!
although its really encouraging to be claiming real women have curves, i think it somehow implies that your are not a "real woman" if you are super skinny etc etc .. i guess the media always has to make some1 the loser!! HOW ANNOYING anyhow, its encouraging, and i love B so its all good...happy sunday, bless, x teiko x

Media Madness
The media is of course a powerful tool, and when the whole Jessica Simpson weight gain pics where plastered all over magazines, i just rolled my eyes,im like im not even gonna put this on my blog! someone puts on a lil weight and so now its front page news! ..anyhow..
Being plus size like the deadly sin im being reminded....and its so frustrating because i think we should have realised by now that not all humans are one size, diversity! ... when i saw American idol Mandisa in the press i had to post, i was inspired
she had her fair share of "fat jokes" on American idol by my fellow Brit Simon Cowell, but what i love the most was how she turned it around, and shes inspiring women with her music and her story! she talks clearly about her journey with her weight, her past and its inspiring, the truth always sets us free. True Beauty reminds us that we are all beautiful, period even if the media implies otherwise. Her next album which i cant wait to hear is out on the 24th March, exciting.
x
oh Simon!

spring into spring!
moving from winter to spring is always exciting, checking out developments in the plus size scene over here, good news for us, extremely popular high street chain Forever 21 are launching a plus size range Faith 21! its obviously about time...
love what they've done with the sandals...
Im ofcourse still loving ny, changing/growing and hanging out (ha), im picking up all these American terms, im like, did i just say that? for real?...like down the block? 20 bucks? get outta here? aight son!
my friend poet and writer Jina had a totally girly day out,i needed a day like this... involving make up,hair, starbucks, cupcakes from Magnolia..
stepped into mac..and john did my make up ..look at those lips..sigh
we found an amazing vintage store, what goes around comes around, in the west village, sales assistant Rose was looking Rosey
u are not decieved, my hair indeed went from a short stlye to shiny black and wavy.. i completely shaved it off this week, the idea of re touching my hair was too overbearing, im going back to my roots! expect me to be sporting many different styles depending on my mood! the hair im wearing is called Maxine, i can do Maxine..;-)
this shiny barbie looking thing is comic, i call it heidi! pigtails where included..
whilst being self absorbed/eating cupcakes from Magnolia and taking pictures of ourselves
singer Maxwell walked straight past, a very delayed reaction. like ok...what just happened, Jina are u sure? OMG ..:-) pure comedy, i couldnt even do my groupie thang it happened that fast!
Maxi oh Maxi ;-)
was a refreshing day!
Maxwell needs to sing now, because i saw him and that's a big deal ;-)
this song makes me cry! well until next time, stay beautiful and blessed

"On the lonely roads of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, two men forge an improbable friendship that will change both of their lives forever. Solo is a Senegalese cab driver working to provide a better life for his young family. William is a tough Southern good ol' boy with a lifetime of regrets. One man's American dream is just beginning, while the other's is quickly winding down. But despite their differences, both men soon realize they need each other more than either is willing to admit. Through this unlikely but unforgettable friendship, GOODBYE SOLO deftly explores the passing of a generation as well as the rapidly changing face of America"
